Happy February! Isn’t it crazy how the first month of the year usually goes by so fast? This January at least went by quickly for me and oh, it was such a good one. On January 1, I decided to make the move to New York. It’s been a dream of mine for years to live there and now, it has become my reality. My experience so far has already delivered over and beyond my expectations.
Coming from another city had its pros and cons. Chicago is by no means identical to New York City. They’re both amazing cities in their own unique way, but Chicago still left me used to city culture. For example, I wasn’t going to have a problem with taking the subway or walking alone home at night. What made me worry was finding some connection in the city. It wasn’t a single connection. I wanted to adjust well to my new internship. I had plans to start a new blog. I also wanted to meet new people. I yearned for creativity. Finding some sort of connection can be harder than it seems especially in a big city.
However, over the past month, everything has changed for the better. I fell in love with my job. I met new people in my building. I explored new and old places in New York City. It’s been a while since I have been so happy with my life. Maybe all you need is change to turn your life around. Most importantly, I have found a new form of creativity in a beautiful city. It’s been an amazing ride so far and while I know there will be bumps ahead (like applying to jobs or finding a place to live), I am all about enjoying the moment right now.
I try to spend as much as my free time exploring the city now. Before 2017 started, I wanted to find a way to document it. Of course, this blog involves my experience in a city, but I really don’t want it to be all about me. Instead, I want to share occasional vlogs with you of my time in New York. Expect a new video every once in a while of various montages and I hope this first video serves as an introduction of what’s to come for these vlogs. And like any New York video, you need some Frank Sinatra in it with a little twist. Enjoy!
