I sometimes don’t realize how close we are to the water in New York City. Yes, I know Manhattan is an island, but the crowded streets cause me and (probably others) to forget how we’re only a few steps away from the river. The best way to experience New York’s large bodies of water is with all the boats, and I know firsthand that’s something everyone should do at least summer.
June’s a glorious time in the city because we finally start to experience summer again. Of course, as soon as the hot weather kicks, we’re already sick of the humidity. I’ve only had a small taste of New York summer over the past few weeks, and OH MY GAWD IT’S HUMID. There’s only one way to get through the dog days of summer though: you need to spend as much time near the water in your favorite summer outfit!
Some New Yorkers might wish they had an iconic coffee hangout like Friends’ Central Perk. But, my NYC goals are more linked to finding a diner similar to one in Seinfeld. Because who doesn’t want more food in their proximity when talking to friends? I think I found my personal Seinfeld diner in FiDi, and they have the BEST pancakes.
There’s no better way to start a summer in New York than taking a trip out to Coney Island for the day. Once known as the largest amusement park in the world from around 1880 to World War II, the Brooklyn destination still allows you to escape the narrow city streets to a more open seaside resort filled with rides, food, and the beach. And when it’s a sunny day like this one, how can you not enjoy it?
